Pump Track Opening Celebrated on July 1

The new pump track at Jakobstad’s Mässplanen was officially opened on July 1. A large number of both younger and older visitors attended the event and eagerly tested the track with scooters, bicycles, and skateboards.

Chair of the Town Council Nina Brännkärr-Friberg delivered the opening speech, highlighting the importance of the €213,000 government grant awarded to Jakobstad for the development of the Mässplanen area and the enhancement of the town’s recreational and sports facilities. The grant covers approximately one-third of the development costs for the Mässplanen multi-purpose activity area.

Ingrid Wester, Chair of the Jakobstad Youth Council, and Vice Chair Alvin Englund cut the ceremonial ribbon. Mayor Robert Nyman and Town Engineer Frank Bäcksholm also had the opportunity to test the pump track on a skateboard and a BMX bike.

The pump track is completed apart from a few minor finishing works. These include final shaping of the embankments, grass seeding, and the installation of artificial turf in the center area of the track. Construction work on the rest of the Mässplanen area will continue, and the entire project is scheduled for completion in 2027.

We would like to remind all users that wearing a helmet is mandatory when using the pump track and that all rules must be followed. Please note that access to the track is only permitted via the paved ramps or through the skate park. Crossing the embankments or the newly seeded grass areas is prohibited.
