The School Garden of Jakobstad has been awarded the Green Flag Award for 2026–2027. During the autumn, a flagpole for the Green Flag Award flag will be installed at the main entrance to the School Garden. The flag symbolizes professional expertise, care, and work carried out with dedication for the benefit of the School Garden.

The award was officially announced at the Lepaa Exhibition for Horticulture and Green Areas on 13 August 2026, where 25 Green Flag Award-winning green spaces were presented. Jakobstad’s City Gardener, Ralf Lillfors, received the award at the event.

“It is wonderful to be part of the international Green Flag Award community and to see the School Garden recognised among the world’s finest green spaces,” says Lillfors.

As a thank you for their excellent work, the City treated the School Garden staff of Alertes green department to coffee and cake.

The Green Flag Award is an international quality mark for green spaces. In Finland, the award is administered by the Finnish Association of Landscape Industries (Viherympäristöliitto).
