According to §32 of the Basic Education Act, a student has the right to free school transportation if the student’s journey to school is longer than five (5) kilometers. The city of Pietarsaari organizes free transportation for the student to the pre-school/community school designated by the city, if the length of the student’s actual journey to school is

– More than 3 km for preschoolers and 1st-3rd graders

– 4.-9. for graders more than 5 km

The pupil’s actual trip to school refers to the daily journey between home and school, which the pupil takes to and from pre-school/school. The length of the trip to school is calculated along the shortest, pedestrian-friendly road in public use, from the home plot boundary to the school plot boundary.
