Jakobstads Gymnasium and Pietarsaaren Lukio – In the Same Historical Building

In Jakobstad, upper secondary school is taught in both Swedish and Finnish. The Swedish education is provided by Jakobstads gymnasium and the Finnish by Pietarsaaren lukio.

Both upper secondary schools are located in the same historical building in the very centre of town.

There are sports programmes in both upper secondary schools, which allows the students to combine sports and upper secondary school studies. In addition, Jakobstads gymnasium offers a visual arts programme and a music programme.

Optima – One of the Best Vocational Schools in Finland

Optima organises vocational education for youths and adults. Optima organises education both in the school environment and at workplaces (apprenticeship training).

The education at Optima is given mostly in Swedish but the education for adults is given in both Swedish and Finnish.

In 2017, Optima in Jakobstad was once again chosen as the best vocational educator in Finland by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Campus Allegro – a Dynamic Centre for University Level Students

Novia University of Applied Sciences, Centria University of Applied Sciences and Yrkesakademin i Österbotten are all located in Campus Allegro in the centre of town, next to the market place.

There are over 700 students daily who come to Campus Allegro to study. Thanks to the cooperation between the organizations, students can choose courses from different units.

Wava-Institute – High Quality Arts and Music Education

Through collaboration with the art and music schools in Campus Allegro, the Wava Institute (in Swedish/in Finnish) arranges high quality, bilingual arts and music education for children, youth and adults.

Both Jakobstads svenska arbetarinstitut and Pietarsaaren suomenkielinen työväenopisto offer countless chances to learn different things and try different kinds of hobbies.

During the courses, one becomes acquainted with new people and learns new skills, for example languages and needlework.
