Zebra Van – Mobile Youth Work Around Pietarsaari

“The van goes where young people gather”

The City of Pietarsaari Youth Office’s camper van, decorated with a zebra motif, is part of the “Mobile Around Pietarsaari” project. This initiative is a collaboration between Pietarsaari and its neighboring municipalities—Luoto, Pedersöre, and Nykarleby—so the van travels throughout the whole area.

The Zebra Van provides mobile youth work as part of the Walkers program, which is based on adults spending time with and being present for young people.

Youth workers drive the Zebra Van both during the day and in the evenings. On weekdays, we visit schools, and on weekends we go to local hangouts and gathering spots. The van also participates in various events and visits other youth centers.

The goal of the activities is to offer young people a safe space where they can chat with other young people and youth workers, or simply enjoy a cup of coffee or juice inside the van.
