Handle garden waste properly

When carrying out autumn garden work, please remember that garden waste must not be taken to parks or forests. The Waste Act prohibits littering. Piles of garden waste reduce the amenity value of the environment and contribute to the spread of invasive species into green areas.

Garden waste piles enrich forest soils and surrounding terrain with nutrients, causing plants such as nettles and mugwort, which are not naturally forest species, to begin growing there.

Branches from shrubs and pieces of perennial plants can take root and spread into nature as escaped garden plants. Invasive species such as rugosa rose, giant balsam, parkslide, Ural false spirea, and lupine thrive in the nutrient-rich soil created by garden waste. Excess apples discarded from gardens into natural areas can also attract rats.

Garden waste can be composted on your own property or alternatively taken to an Ekorosk recycling station for proper processing and reuse.

Thank you for helping to protect our environment!
