Did you know that nearly all of Skata is a shared street area?
Many children and young people walk and cycle in the Skata area every day. The City would like to remind motorists of the traffic rules that apply in a shared street area so that the area remains safe for everyone.
In a shared street area, drivers must adjust their speed to match pedestrian traffic, with a maximum speed limit of 20 km/h. Pedestrians must be given unobstructed passage. When entering or leaving a shared street area, drivers must yield to other traffic. Vehicles may only be parked in designated parking spaces. Please also remember not to park in front of residents’ driveways, so that access to properties remains unobstructed.
For through traffic, Jakob Street and Christine Street are recommended. However, the area is best enjoyed on foot or by bicycle.
Students of Jakobstads gymnasium, Pietarsaaren lukio and Etelänummi School, as well as their guardians, will also receive separate information about this matter.
Thank you for following the traffic rules and showing consideration for others using the area!
