Did you know that a REKO group meets in Jakobstad every week? During August and September, the Jakobstad REKO group gathers on Thursdays from 5:40 PM to 6:40 PM at the Jakobstad market square. The next REKO distribution will take place on August 6.

In the REKO concept, consumers buy food and other products directly from local producers. Orders are placed through the local REKO Facebook group, and the products are collected from a regular distribution point at the market square.

REKO stands for the Swedish phrase “rejäl konsumtion”, meaning fair and responsible consumption. Through REKO, you can buy fresh food without unnecessary transportation and packaging, know the origin of the products, and support local producers. At the distribution event, you can also speak directly with the producer and learn more about the products.

Finland’s first REKO distribution was organized right here in Jakobstad in 2013. The concept was developed by Thomas Snellman from Pedersöre, who got the idea while visiting a direct-sales event in France and adapted it to suit Finnish conditions.
