Improvements to the Beaches at the Old Harbour and Fäboda Through the Participatory Budget

The funds allocated to the 2026 Participatory Budget have been used during the summer to develop the Old Harbour and Fäboda areas in line with residents’ proposals and wishes. During March 2026, residents of Jakobstad had the opportunity to submit ideas and vote on how the Participatory Budget funds should be used through Jeppis Gallup.

A new barbecue area has now been built at the Old Harbour, and the beach volleyball court has been renovated. In addition, beach soccer goals have been installed on the beach. Kittholmen beach has also been improved, with the shoreline cleaned using an excavator earlier this year.

In the spring, a new water level gauge was installed at Kittholmen beach to measure a safe water depth for the use of the diving tower. At the same time, the gate to the diving tower was renewed.

Two new outdoor toilets have also been placed in the northern part of the beach area by the Fäboda beach café.

The Participatory Budget is the Town of Jakobstad’s way of implementing participatory budgeting. This year, the Town Board allocated €20,000 to the Participatory Budget.
