Skolträdgården plantings delight throughout the Summer

The plantings in the Skolträdgården once again consist of a diverse selection of plants, including both directly sown and pre-cultivated species, as well as annuals and perennials. In the lower park, approximately 30 different species of summer flowers are pre-grown, such as marigolds, amaranths, snapdragons, cockscombs, and cosmos.

The timing of the plantings is largely determined by weather conditions. Traditionally, the planting of summer flowers takes place from the second week of June until Midsummer, but warm weather may allow the work to begin earlier. Perennial plants can be planted already earlier in the spring. On average, around 14,000 summer flowers are grown annually in the Skolträdgården.

In the upper park’s demonstration plots, useful plants, especially vegetables, are cultivated, and direct sowing begins once the soil has warmed sufficiently. The plantings in the upper park are supplemented with summer flowers as well as special plants that have overwintered in greenhouses, such as olive trees and ginkgo trees, once the risk of frost is safely over.

Now is a great time to visit Skolparken and enjoy the spring-like park!
